Posting from your ISP, IP range, or country has been blocked due to abuse.
So, naturally, I sent a nice mail to moot/mods, asking them to lift my ban and whatnot because I wanted to make a regular weekly thread about Pathologic (and shitpost in Payday 2 threads) to draw the attention of new anons to feed this powerhouse.
And sometime later I got this reply: "This ISP block will not be removed due to persistent spambot activity on your ISP", go figure. It's not like I've got a room full of PCs, mining for bitcoins, no-no, all props go to my ISP. Not sure what I'm going to do now. Probably stay in read-only mode for quite a while.
And here's the part where I ask you, fearless people of the Intraweb, to create (not too often) Pathologic threads on /v/ (where you would casually mention about this project going on). I don't want people to lose this thing out of their sight ( and given youse guys' ADHD, I'm quite surprised that you still manage to read this blog from time to time, that's really nice to see) because I feel that there are a lot of Pathologic diehard fans who couldn't get past Day 1 because of botched translation.
So there it is, I ask you to do something for me, I hope it's not too much to ask. I'd hate this thing being forgotten. Thanks in advance, friends.

ReplyDeleteIt takes less than a couple of minutes to set it up and it would be really great if you could post yourself, so if you have time consider the idea of using one.

ReplyDeleteWhy don't you just use the existing translation of Pathologic and improve upon it, instead of translating the entire game from scratch?
Oh, there are many bits and scraps, but here's the thing: they all have their "differences", they're not easy to notice, but there are many.
DeleteExample: there're shittons of sentences that include "Steppe inhabitants" as in "people, who live in the wild, around the town" - this "steppe inhabitants" thing didn't seem quite right to me, I changed it into "Steppefolk" - I like this one better. Same with directions - they don't match, I used other words. And I don't even have to tell you about dialogs, do I?
And it goes on and on - I really have to improve that shit instead of blatantly copypasting. But sure, if I have problems - I look into their existing pieces of translation for a reference.
That's all there is.
And now I realise that you actually told me to improve upon it. Fuck my reading comprehension.
So yeah, basically, if I take everything from existing translation - I still gotta improve it, meaning that I'm gonna have to change their sentences altogether sometimes (wrong words or other stuff) - this won't really make my job easier, what if I leave something unnoticed?
I better just do my thing and if I have some problems - I'll look into their material. At least now, anyway.

I can't see the exact dates of the other posts, but its been about a month since you posted any progress. How's the project going Vlad?
ReplyDeleteFairly well, actually, I don't even play GTA V on weekends for this. I was spending a lot of time on thinking. Thing is - there are bits and pieces of translation on the web but they aren't consistent. Meaning that they don't really remember what words they coined before and thus - they have to coin another word everytime they stumble on something tricky - not really consistent, right?
DeleteSo, I had to make a spreadsheet of all interesting things with original names like: Steppefolk, Termitiary, Menhu and all other stuff. And in order to do that - I had to play the game for a while. Sorry for the delay, everyone, but I'm not slacking off!
